The alpha Channel Strip provides the preamp of the XL9000J series console with the VHD (Variable Harmonic Drive) of the E-Signature Channel, a switchable lo cut (40/80/120Hz), balanced insert which can be summed and the (mono) 3band G-Series EQ of the SL4000 Stereo Module. At our test a TOFT FET compressor was used on the insert point of the SSL Alpha Channel Strip which you can see on pictures. | | | | | | | | | | | | The topping of the cake is the SSL AD converter (Spdif 32kHz - 108kHz following on SpDif input) and a lite limit circuit to protect against digital distortion. | | | | | | | | | | | | The famous Variable Harmonic Drive (VHD) was taken of the E-Signature Channel and allows to timewarp between the 1950s (2nd harmonics - tube sound) and the 1970s and later (3rd harmonics - transistor sound). This 32 setups can be sent via MIDI SysEx message to any computer to be recorded within the project on a midi track. Just play back the SysEx and you can exactly recall the settings of your production. A big bonus (especially for stereo settings of EQs and Dynamics, but also for the preamp level and Hicut/LoCut filter settings) is the COPY function. Just copy the setting from the EQ module for the Left channel to the EQ Module for the Right channel....
